Women's Soccer battles to 1-1 draw against Lee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University women's soccer battled Lee to a 1-1 draw on a crisp Friday evening at Signaigo Field. The match, which saw both teams secure a goal in the second half, provided an intense and strategic showdown in front of a lively crowd.

The match opened with a cautious tone, as both teams tested each other's defenses. Lee pushed forward early, outshooting Christian Brothers 9-4 in the first half, with Addie Chapman and Grace Berry leading the attack. Christian Brothers' goalkeeper, Gemma Crowe, proved to be a key player in the opening half, making two crucial saves. Crowe's consistent positioning and reactions under pressure set the tone for Christian Brothers' defense, while Lee's forwards worked hard to create space but struggled to capitalize on multiple opportunities.

After a scoreless first half, the game escalated in intensity as Christian Brothers struck first in the second half. In the 59th minute, Alexa Franklin capitalized on a quick break to score, sending a wave of excitement through the home fans. Franklin exhibited excellent anticipation and footwork, driving her shot past Lee's goalkeeper, Abby Whitcomb, to break the deadlock. This goal marked Franklin's second of the season, highlighting her ability to make an impact off the bench.

Lee, however, was quick to respond. In the 72nd minute, Avery Sides answered for the visitors with a well-taken goal, drawing the game level. Sides displayed technical proficiency and composure, converting on a cross that bypassed the Christian Brothers defense. Despite Gemma Crowe's best efforts, Sides' placement left little room for a save. This goal was also Sides' second of the season.

The final quarter of the game saw both teams push for a potential game-winner. Lee continued to dominate in possession and offensive pressure, recording 10 shots in the second half alone. Christian Brothers' defense, anchored by players like Giulia Ticozelli and Cammie Jernigan, held firm under relentless pressure. Crowe, who ended the match with three saves, denied several late attempts, including a powerful shot from Whitney Carrigan in the 88th minute that was heading toward the top of the goal.

Christian Brothers showed resilience and tactical discipline to secure a valuable point against a higher-ranked team. Despite being outshot 19-6, the home side's compact defense and Crowe's performance in goal were instrumental in stifling Lee's offense. Franklin's goal and her impact off the bench were notable positives, giving Christian Brothers something to build on as they look towards the future.

Lee, now with a record of 6-3-5, will likely reflect on missed opportunities in a match where they controlled much of the possession but struggled with final-third efficiency. For Christian Brothers, the draw brings their record to 0-13-1, yet their tenacity and defensive resolve in this game could serve as a pivotal confidence boost as they aim for a breakthrough win on senior day.
