Rockhurst Hits Way Past Bucs

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Visiting Rockhurst took an early lead in game one and then completed the comeback in game two to earn a doubleheader sweep of the Christian Brothers University baseball team, on Friday afternoon, at USA Stadium. The Hawks (Great Lakes Valley Conference) took the opener 10-6 and completed the sweep with a 8-5 win in game two. 

The visitors recorded 11 hits in both games. 

GAME ONE: RU 10 (1-0) CBU 6 (2-3)

GAME CHANGER:
The Hawks plated seven runs in the first three innings and held on for the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bucs outhit the Hawks 12-11.
  • Four different CBU players had doubles. 
  • Dalton Pyzer led the Bucs, finishing 3-for-4 with a.double
  • Matthew McDaniel and Will Gossett each had a pair of RBIs. 
  • The Bucs pitching staff had nine strikeouts.
KEY PLAYS:
The Hawks scored three runs in the first to lead 3-0.
Matthew McDaniel and Will Gossett drove in runs in the second, Bucs trail 3-2.
Rockhurst took advantage of a CBU error to plate four runs in the third to lead 7-2.
The Bucs scored two runs in both the third and the fifth to cut RU's lead to 7-6.
The Hawks sealed the win with three runs in the sixth to win 10-6.

GAME TWO: RU 8 (2-0) CBU 5 (2-4)

GAME CHANGER:
Rockhurst scored seven runs in the sixth for the comeback victory. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: KEY PLAYS:
Dalton Pyzer hit a three-run home run to put the Bucs up 3-0 in the first.
Two batters later, Clay Facteau hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Hawks used a three-run home run to help plate seven runs in the sixth, to take an 8-5 lead. 

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 13, when host Bethel. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
