ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - The Christian Brothers University softball team dropped a pair of close contests on day two of the UAH Charger Chillout. CBU fell 7-4 in the opener to Carson-Newman, and came up just short in a 10-9 setback to Kentucky Wesleyan to finish the day.
GAME ONE: CN 7 (2-5) CBU 4 (3-2)
GAME CHANGER:
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Carson-Newman catcher Macauley Bailey hit a three-run home run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Both teams finished with nine hits.
- Summer Alexander led CBU at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
- Starting pitcher Emily Schooler allowed four runs, on seven hits, in 4.1 innings.
KEY PLAYS:
In the second, an RBI groundout from
Josie Bond gave CBU a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles plated three runs to take a 3-1 lead, in the third.
RBI singles from Alexander and
Riley Simpson gave CBU a 4-3 lead, in the fifth.
The Eagles answered, scoring on a wild pitch, in the fifth.
With the score tied at four, in the bottom of the sixth, Bailey delivered a three-run home run.
CBU had the tying run at the plate, in the seventh, but a fly out ended the game.

- The four hits for Alexander are the most by a CBU player this season.
GAME TWO: KWC 10 (1-1) CBU 9 (3-3)
GAME CHANGER:
The Panthers hit four home runs in the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- KWC had a 12-9 advantage in hits.
- Five of the 12 Panther hits were for extra-bases.
- The Lady Bucs had four extra-base hits, including three triples.
- Summer Alexander and Riley Simpson finished with two hits apiece.
- Simpson hit her first home run of the season.
- Alexander, Josie Bond and Katie Candies had triples.
KEY PLAYS:
The Panthers used three home runs to lead 6-1 after two innings.
CBU fought back to get to within 6-4, but a two-run homer, in the fourth, gave KWC an 8-4 lead.
Trailing 8-6, in the fifth,
Abigail Garrison singled to get the Lady Bucs to within 8-7.
KWC added a pair in the fifth to go up 10-7.
The Lady Bucs rallied in the seventh, scoring a pair, but saw their comeback effort come up just short when a bases loaded ground ball ended the threat.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Feb. 17 as they open Gulf South play at home against West Georgia. First pitch is scheduled for 11 AM.
