Lady Bucs Storm Back to Win Series Over Union

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University softball team erased a 5-0 deficit in a 6-5 win over Union, on Sunday afternoon, at Bland Field. The victory gave the Lady Bucs a Gulf South Conference series win over their in-state rivals.

FINAL: CBU 6 (13-11, 7-5 GSC) | UU 5 (15-9, 7-5 GSC)

GAME CHANGER:
With CBU trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Janiah Anderson delivered a two-RBI single that proved to be the game-winner.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Union finished with a 9-6 edge in hits.
  • Four of the six CBU hits were for extra-bases, including home runs by Haylee Alberson, Kylie Burks and Kate Candies.
  • Burks finished 2-2 with a home run.
  • Alberson was 2-3 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. Alberson also got the win in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings of scoreless relief on just three hits.
KEY PLAYS:
After scoring a pair in the first Union capitalized on a pair of infield singles when a three-run home run gave it a 5-0 lead after 1.5 innings.
CBU got on the board in the second on the two-run home run by Alberson.
The Lady Bucs scored two more in the third on back-to-back home runs by Candies and Burks.
After Union left the bases loaded in the sixth, Anderson slapped a two-RBI single down the left field line to score a pair of runs with two outs.
The Lady Bulldogs had the tying run on second with two outs in the seventh, but Alberson got a strike out to finish the game.

The RBIs for Anderson are the first of her CBU career.
