MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University softball team hit three home runs to help it earn a doubleheader split with in-state rival Union, on Saturday afternoon, at Bland Field. The Lady Bucs came back to earn a 7-6 win in the opener, and narrowly missed the sweep with a 6-5 setback in game two.
GAME ONE: CBU 7 (12-10, 6-4 GSC) | UU 6 (14-8, 6-4 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
The Lady Bucs hit two home runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a two-run blast by
Ashlynn Smith to help earn the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Union finished with a 9-8 edge in hits.
- The Lady Bucs had five extra-base hits, including three home runs.
- Ashlynn Smith led CBU, as she finished 3-3 with a two-run home run and a double.
- Kylie Burks and Summer Alexander also had home runs.

After adding a run in the fifth, the Lady Bucs took the lead in the sixth on a leadoff home run by
Kylie Burks and a two-run shot by
Ashlynn Smith.

Leading 5-4 in the seventh Union plated what proved to be the game-winning run.

- The visitors outhit CBU 11-8.
- Haylee Alberson and Josie Bond finished with two hits apiece.
- Alberson drove in a pair of runs, and Bond had a double.

The Lady Bulldogs scored two in the second and two in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.
CBU used a wild pitch and a sac-fly by Riley SImpson to get to within 5-4, in the fourth.
In the top of the seventh, Union had an RBI single that proved to be the game-winner.
Kiera Coulon delivered a two-out single that made the score 6-5.
With the bases loaded, and two outs, Union forced a pop out to finish the game.
