Draw narrowly escapes Buccaneers at Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Christian Brothers University women's soccer team (0-3-0) was edged by Ouachita Baptist (1-2-0) in a non-conference away fixture on Saturday afternoon. The Bucs nearly earned a 2-2 draw, but were upended by an unlucky late goal.

OF NOTE
  • Freshman forward Alexa Franklin scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
  • Sophomore forward Ana Dutra also opened her collegiate scoring account with her first goal of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alexa Franklin put CBU on top in the 7th minute, 1-0, with a magnificent goal from distance. A corner kick was delivered that bounced around until the ball fell at the feet of Franklin on the edge of the 18-yard box. She rocketed a shot past the diving keeper and into the bottom left side of the goal.
  • OBU was unable to respond to the go-ahead goal until the 21st minute. The Tigers equalized, 1-1, with a well-placed pass and solid strike.
  • The score remained level until the final minute of the first half. Ouachita Baptist's Tracey Smith made a move to shake a CBU defender at the top of the penalty area and struck an unstoppable shot, 2-1.
  • The Bucs only needed five minutes to level the score in the second half. Ana Dutra lined up 20 yards out and directly in front of goal for a free kick. Her brilliant shot from the free kick pinged off the bottom of the crossbar and landed past the goal line, 2-2.
  • The draw stood until the 86th minute when a mix up between a Buccaneer defender and the CBU goalkeeper allowed a lucky shot to slip past. Ouachita Baptist's Hattie Gardner was able to slide between the two and kick the ball with enough force to deflect it into the net, 3-2.
  • OBU was then able to park the bus and prevent a goal-scoring opportunity for the remainder of the match.
