Christian Brothers suffers defeat to Union in conference opener

JACKSON, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University women's soccer (0-4-0, 0-1-0 GSC) suffered a 3-0 defeat to Union (2-2-0, 1-0-0 GSC) at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex on Friday. The Lady Buccaneers kept the game close until two goals were scored in quick succession in the second half.

OF NOTE
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Kaylee Allen made a career-high eight saves, most of which were of high difficulty, in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CBU took the first two shots of the game within the opening six minutes. Chloe May's shot came off a corner kick and needed to be kept out by the opposing keeper. Lara Rodriguez followed up a minute later with a shot fired at the bottom right corner of the goal that was denied.
  • The Bulldogs went on the front foot afterwards and scored with around 20 minutes remaining in the first half. A well-timed through ball coupled with an indefensible pass across goal allowed Union to tap in a shot, 1-0.
  • A second goal was scored by the Bulldogs early in the second half. Another through ball found its target and the recipient was able to slip a shot past Allen who had no other option but to charge the goal-scorer, 2-0.
  • A third goal came within a minute of the second goal. Union's Rebekah Jackson converted a shot from a nearly impossible angle, 3-0.
  • With 38 minutes left in the contest, Christian Brothers faced nine more shots from the Bulldogs. Allen made four saves in that time to keep UU from scoring again. Meanwhile, CBU took five shots in a commendable comeback effort. Clair Mueller almost scored in the 83rd minute with a shot from out wide that needed to be cleared off the line by a Bulldog defender.
