HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set was neck-and-neck throughout. William Jewell grabbed the first setpoint at 24-23 with a service ace. A kill from Jackson then evened the score. The Cardinals reached set point twice more, but CBU answered both times. The Bucs earned their first set point at 27-26 before another knotting of the score. Consecutive kills from Jordan Allen and Ella Schumacher finally allowed Christian Brothers to claim set one.
  • The Cardinals went up 10-1 in the second set to gain the early momentum. Down 23-12 late, the Bucs scored five-straight points to cut the lead to five, 23-17. A WJC kill followed by a service ace then evened the match at one set apiece.
  • The third set went back-and-forth before William Jewell claimed it with a run at the end. Trailing by six points, 16-10, Christian Brothers embarked on a 7-1 run to even the score at 17-all. Tia Rizvi served up two aces to cap the run. The Cardinals responded with an 8-3 run that gave them a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • CBU scored seven unanswered points to go up 14-7 in the fourth set. The Bucs kept the momentum and were well on their way to a fifth set when the score reached 22-14 after a kill from Schumacher.
