Buccaneers go four sets in defeat to Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Christian Brothers University volleyball team (4-6) was defeated by Southern Arkansas (7-2, 1-0 GAC) in four sets at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center on Saturday. The Bucs won the second set, 25-22, and put up 20 points in the third set against a strong opponent.

KEY PLAYERS
  • Junior Calah Jackson registered her second-consecutive double-double with a match-leading 16 kills alongside 13 digs.
  • Senior Sarah Allyn Thornell eclipsed 40 assists for the second time this season.
  • Freshman Ella Schumacher reached double-digits in kills for the third time this season with 15 in the four-setter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Muleriders ran away with the first set, 25-15. They went on an 11-3 run midway through to go in front for good.
  • CBU battled with all its might to claim the second set, 25-22. Southern Arkansas gained a 20-19 lead late before the Bucs went into another gear. They finished the set on a 6-2 run that included two kills and a block assist from Jackson.
  • Christian Brothers went up 16-10 in the third set before the momentum completely shifted to the Muleriders. They scored 10 unanswered points on the way to a 25-20 win.
  • CBU played Southern Arkansas closer than the fourth set score, 25-16, showed at the end. The Muleriders capped the match with six unanswered points to pull away late.

NEXT UP

The Bucs will host Lee for their conference opener on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. inside the Canale Arena.
