Men's Basketball undone by late push from Trevecca Nazerene

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers men's basketball (7-9, 3-7 GSC) faced a tough challenge against Trevecca Nazarene (12-4, 7-3 GSC) in a high-paced, competitive basketball game on Thursday night at Canale Arena. Despite a strong first half, the Buccaneers were outpaced by the Trojans in the second half and ultimately fell by a final score of 91-76.

First Half Highlights:

CBU came out firing in the first half, shooting an impressive 61.3 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from three-point range. Led by Kyler Mann and Tane Kirisome, the team managed to edge ahead of TNU with a halftime score of 46-38. Their defensive efforts and ability to capitalize on fast breaks (14 points) gave them an early advantage. Key contributors during this stretch included:
  • Tane Kirisome: Efficient shooting with 12 points, including two key three-pointers.
  • Kyler Mann: Active on both ends, grabbing seven rebounds and adding 11 points.
  • Iman Kheirati: Hustling in the paint, contributing nine points and four rebounds.

Second Half Struggles:

The Buccaneers struggled to maintain their rhythm in the second half, where TNU surged ahead with a blistering 63 percent field goal percentage. CBU's shooting cooled off, with a drop to 37.1 percent from the field and just 33.3 percent from behind the arc. Additionally, turnovers and a lack of second-chance points (0 in the half) hindered their momentum.

Despite solid individual performances, including Tane Kirisome's continued scoring and an uptick in Allen Hughes' offensive output (11 points in the half), the Buccaneers were unable to match TNU's offensive firepower led by Jalen Page (23 points, five three-pointers). Trevecca Nazarene pulled away late with 12 unanswered points to close out the contest.

Key Stats:

  • Points in the Paint: CBU 42, TNU 32
  • Bench Points: CBU 7, TNU 12
  • Second-Chance Points: CBU 6, TNU 12
  • Turnovers: CBU 10, TNU 7

Player Performances:

  1. Tane Kirisome: Led the team with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including three triples. His aggressive play kept the Buccaneers within striking distance.
  2. Allen Hughes: Contributed 17 points and 10 assists for a double-double.
  3. Kyler Mann: Came close to notching a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds while providing defensive stability.
  4. Iman Kheirati: Added 13 points and eight rebounds, anchoring the interior play.

Final Thoughts:

The Bucs showcased potential in their first-half performance but faltered in the face of TNU's offensive onslaught and adjustments in the second half. The Buccaneers must address their second-half execution and consistency to bounce back in their next game.
