Lady Bucs edged by Trevecca Nazarene in overtime thriller

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a hard-fought matchup at Canale Arena, the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team (0-15, 0-10 GSC) fell to Trevecca Nazarene University (6-10, 3-7 GSC) in overtime, 64-60, in a dramatic Gulf South Conference battle. CBU held a three-point lead with 20 seconds to go before the Lady Trojans sent the game to OT with a shot from beyond the arc and persevered in the extra five minutes.

First Half: Strong Start for the Lady Bucs

CBU came out determined, taking a narrow 13-12 lead in the first quarter. SeQuioa Carroll led the charge with two field goals made and three boards. Meanwhile, Aaliyah Washington grabbed three offensive rebounds to help her team create second-chance opportunities. The Lady Bucs recorded five second-chance points in the opening period.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bucs extended their lead slightly, heading into halftime with a 27-24 advantage. Their bench contributed effectively, scoring nine of the team's 14 points in the quarter. They also made the most out of their trips to the charity stripe, converting 5-of-5 free throw attempts.

Third Quarter: Trevecca Fights Back

The third quarter saw Trevecca regain momentum. After Washington banked a layup off a turnover to put CBU up by five, 29-24, early in the quarter, the Lady Trojans focused on scoring inside the paint to reverse the tide. Trevecca outscored CBU 16-8 in the third, with 12 of those points coming from inside the paint, to take a 40-35 lead heading into the final period.

Fourth Quarter: Dramatic Rally

Christian Brothers displayed resilience in the fourth quarter, clawing back with a combination of aggressive defense and timely scoring. Down by seven points at the beginning of the period, the Lady Bucs chipped away at the lead until Jada Hood's clutch three-pointer finally put CBU back in front, 44-42, around the seven-minute mark. Chloe Crawford also drained a clutch-three pointer later on to give CBU a three-point advantage, 49-46, with around two minutes remaining.

Hood sank a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left to give the Lady Bucs a three-point lead again. Trevecca's Brianna Bridges then leveled the score with a three-point bucket in the closing seconds to force the contest into overtime.

Overtime: Narrow Miss for CBU

Overtime proved to be a battle of attrition. CBU converted all four of their free throws, showcasing their efficiency at the line (16-of-21, 76.2 percent for the game). However, they struggled to convert field-goal opportunities, shooting 2-of-7 in the extra period. Meanwhile, Trevecca shot 3-of-5 from the field and 6-of-6 from the line to walk away with a narrow win.

Key Performers:
