Christian Brothers drops game to tough Lee team

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers women's basketball team (0-16, 0-11 GSC) hosted Lee (14-3, 8-3 GSC) at the Canale Arena on Saturday afternoon. Despite the efforts of key players, Christian Brothers struggled to overcome a well-organized opponent, falling to Lee 67-46 in a hard-fought contest.

First Quarter: Early Struggles

The game opened with Christian Brothers finding it difficult to establish momentum. The team managed only eight points in the first quarter compared to Lee's 17. Nyapar Mathot contributed a couple of buckets, but turnovers and missed opportunities prevented the home team from gaining an early foothold.

Second Quarter: Keeping Pace

Christian Brothers showed flashes of their potential in the second quarter, scoring 11 points. Valencia McFall drained both of her field goal attempts while turnovers were limited to a single shot clock violation. However, Lee continued to capitalize on second-chance opportunities and maintained a 34-19 lead at halftime.

Third Quarter: Signs of Life

The third quarter marked Christian Brothers' strongest stretch, as they outscored Lee 15-14. Lamonnie Owens found her rhythm, contributing five points on 2-of-3 shooting. Defensive efforts, including a pair of blocks by Aaliyah Washington, helped contain Lee's scoring, albeit temporarily.

Fourth Quarter: Lee Pulls Away

Despite their third-quarter rally, Christian Brothers could not sustain their momentum. Lee's sharp shooting and ability to control the paint proved decisive. Christian Brothers managed 12 points in the final quarter, but Lee's bench strength and dominance in second-chance opportunities sealed the game.

Key Performers

  • Nyapar Mathot: Scored 10 points and was a consistent presence in the paint.
  • Lamonnie Owens: Added 10 points, including two three-pointers, while contributing defensively with a couple of steals.
  • Jada Hood: Played 31 minutes, contributing eight points and four rebounds.

Team Stats

Christian Brothers shot 37 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc, but bench scoring (37 points) and second-chance points (17) for Lee were critical factors in the game's outcome. The team was outrebounded 47-22, highlighting Lee's dominance in the post.

Looking Forward

While the defeat extends Christian Brothers' tough season, individual performances and improved third-quarter play suggest room for growth. The team aims to build on these positives as they continue their campaign.
