Women's Basketball suffers defeat to strong West Florida squad

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team (0-13, 0-8 GSC) faced off against West Florida (11-3, 7-1 GSC) at the UWF Field House on Thursday night. Despite a spirited effort, the Lady Bucs were overpowered by a strong West Florida team, resulting in an 81-58 defeat.

First Quarter

CBU started with determination, led by Lamonnie Ownes, who showed a strong offensive presence, contributing eight points in the first quarter. Jada Hood also added key baskets, helping CBU keep pace early on. Despite their efforts, the Lady Bucs trailed 18-15 at the end of the period, as consistent scoring (50.0 FG%) and free throw shooting (5-for-8) from West Florida made a difference.

Second Quarter

The Lady Bucs continued to compete, maintaining a solid shooting percentage (46.2 FG%). Jada Hood contributed with crucial rebounds and points, while Chloe Crawford hit a much-needed three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining to keep the game close. However, West Florida's three-point shooting (42.9 3PT%) and ability to capitalize on second-chance opportunities (7 PTS) allowed them to build a five-point lead by halftime (34-29).

Third Quarter

West Florida took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring CBU 28-18. Despite strong efforts from players like Aaliyah Washington and SeQuoia Carroll, who were effective at the free-throw line, the Lady Bucs struggled to contain UWF's Rylie Stephens, who dominated in the paint with a 10-point quarter. West Florida's 56.3 percent field goal shooting in the quarter created a significant gap, and CBU entered the final period trailing 62-47.

Fourth Quarter

The Lady Bucs fought hard in the fourth quarter, but West Florida's depth and bench scoring proved too much to overcome. Jada Hood continued to be a key player for CBU, finishing with a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds), while Lamonnie Ownes added 13 points to lead the team in scoring. West Florida closed out the game with a 19-11 scoring advantage in the fourth, sealing their 23-point victory.
