Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Christian Brothers University volleyball team showed grit on the road Friday night but came up short against a tough Alabama Huntsville squad, falling in straight sets (25–21, 25–11, 25–18) at the SportsMED Arena in Spragins Hall.
The Lady Buccaneers opened the match strong, pushing UAH in a competitive first set. Sarah Helms led the charge with six kills and five blocks, while Ella Schumacher added seven kills and six digs to keep the offense rolling early. CBU held leads midway through the opening frame before the Chargers closed on a late run to take it 25–21.
UAH (13–4, 5–3 GSC) caught fire in the second set, hitting an impressive .452 as CBU's defense tried to keep pace. Despite a strong effort from setter Carleiny Morillo, who dished out 14 assists and added three kills, the Chargers maintained control to take a 2–0 match lead.
The Lady Bucs (7–11, 2–5 GSC) continued to fight in the third, with Calah Jackson posting five kills and Sarah Helms adding more key points at the net. Defensively, Sophia Nowacki anchored the back row with 13 digs, while Lilly Oxford chipped in seven more.
UAH's offensive balance proved to be the difference, with Zoe Smith leading the Chargers with 15 kills and a .429 hitting percentage.
CBU will look to bounce back as they continue their Gulf South Conference road stretch, returning to action on Saturday afternoon.
