MEMPHIS, TN. – Despite a determined effort and a second-half spark, the Christian Brothers University women's soccer team fell 2–1 to West Alabama on Friday evening at Signaigo Field.
After a tight first half, the Lady Buccaneers broke through in the 72nd minute when Madison Woolridge netted her second goal of the season. Woolridge connected off an assist from Ana Dutra, giving CBU a 1–0 advantage and sending energy through the home crowd.
But West Alabama responded late, scoring twice in the 82nd minute—the second coming just seconds after the first—to flip the match in the Tigers' favor.
Goalkeeper Kaylee Allen was a standout for CBU, facing relentless pressure and finishing with nine saves on 20 West Alabama shots. The Lady Bucs managed four shots of their own, with two on goal, capitalizing on limited chances.
Lia Haggstrom, Savanna Mondesir-Singh, and Lara Sanchez anchored a disciplined CBU defense that kept the match close for much of the night.
The loss drops CBU to 1–7–1 overall and 0–5–0 in Gulf South Conference play, while West Alabama improved to 6–2–2. The Lady Buccaneers will look to bounce back in their next home contest as they continue their fight through the conference schedule.
