MEMPHIS, TN. – Christian Brothers women's soccer showed fight on Friday evening at Signaigo Field, clawing back from a two-goal deficit to even the match in the second half before Valdosta State pulled away late for a 4–2 win.
After falling behind 1–0 in the 32nd minute, the Lady Buccaneers (1–11–1, 0–9 GSC) continued to pressure throughout the first half, generating several corner kicks and quality looks on goal. Valdosta State extended its lead early in the second half, but CBU responded with its best stretch of play all season.
In the 70th minute, Madison Woolridge got CBU on the board, finishing a cross from Lara Sanchez to make it 2–1. Just three minutes later, Alexa Franklin netted her first goal of the season, assisted by Ana Dutra, to bring the Buccaneers level at 2–2 and energize the home crowd of 150.
Valdosta State (4–7–4, 2–6–1 GSC) regained the lead in the 76th minute on Kaitlyn Scherer's second goal of the match and sealed the result with another score four minutes later. Goalkeeper Kaylee Allen recorded five saves for CBU, including several crucial stops to keep her team within striking distance.
The Lady Buccaneers totaled 13 shots and seven corner kicks, while Valdosta State had 14 shots and six corners.
CBU will look to build on its strong offensive showing as it closes out the season on Sunday at home.
