Lady Buccaneers Sweep Union in Halloween Night Match

Jackson, TN. — The Christian Brothers University volleyball team put on a frighteningly strong performance Thursday night, sweeping Union University (25-18, 25-14, 25-19) inside Fred DeLay Gymnasium.

With the Halloween spirit in the air, the Lady Buccaneers made sure the Bulldogs couldn't escape their spooky serve pressure and relentless attack. CBU improved to 9-17 overall and 4-11 in the Gulf South Conference, while Union fell to 4-18 (2-13 GSC).

Mattie Sewell was a monster at the net, tallying nine kills with a .563 hitting percentage and adding five blocks. Addison Waggoner followed closely with eight kills on .292 hitting, while Calah Jackson and Ella Schumacher each chipped in with six kills apiece.

Setter Carleiny Morillo ran the offense masterfully, dishing out 29 assists and picking up six digs and three block assists. Sophia Nowacki anchored the back row with 15 digs and added two service aces, while Sarah Helms brought the energy from the service line with four aces and seven total points.

As a team, the Lady Bucs hit an efficient .220 and totaled 13 team blocks, compared to Union's .037 hitting percentage. CBU also out-dug the Bulldogs 46–39 and served up eight aces in the victory.

Christian Brothers took control early in every set, jumping to a 7-1 lead in the opener and never looking back. In set two, the Bucs haunted Union's attack, holding them to a negative hitting percentage (-.073) while cruising to a 25-14 win. The third set saw a brief rally from Union, but CBU's balance and front-line dominance sealed the sweep.

The Lady Buccaneers will return to Canale Arena next week as they continue Gulf South Conference play, looking to finish the regular season strong before postseason play begins.
