HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Christian Brothers University women's basketball (0-22, 0-17 GSC) struggled to keep pace with a dominant Alabama Huntsville (20-4, 15-3 GSC) squad, falling 88-54 in Gulf South Conference action Thursday night at Spragins Hall.
Despite an aggressive effort from SeQuoia Carroll and Jada Hood, the Lady Bucs were unable to overcome Alabama Huntsville's efficient shooting and commanding presence on the boards. Christian Brothers shot just 31.1 percent (19-of-61) from the field and 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from three-point range, while the Chargers capitalized on their opportunities, hitting 42.4 percent of their shots and draining 13 three-pointers.
Slow Start Proves Costly
Christian Brothers found themselves trailing early as Alabama Huntsville took control with an 18-10 lead after the first quarter. Mia Hollingsworth provided an early spark for UAH, finishing with a game-high 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including six three-pointers. The Chargers continued their efficient offensive play in the second quarter, outscoring CBU 21-13 to take a 39-23 lead into halftime.
CBU's offense struggled to find rhythm, with Hood leading the way with nine points, including two three-pointers. Carroll and Lamonnie Owens each contributed nine points, but the Lady Bucs were unable to match Alabama Huntsville's depth and scoring efficiency.
Second-Half Surge by Alabama Huntsville
Alabama Huntsville pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Christian Brothers 29-15 while knocking down four three-pointers. The Lady Bucs showed brief signs of life, with Chloe Crawford hitting a three-pointer and Carroll swiping a steal, but UAH's defense stifled any comeback attempt.
In the fourth quarter, CBU was only edged by four points, 20-16. Tarellya Barber banked five points by way of a bucket and three made free throws. Christian Brothers forced five turnovers in the final period to throw the Chargers off their game.
Looking Ahead
The Lady Bucs will look to regroup and sharpen their offensive execution as they prepare to face West Alabama on the road this Saturday.
