Lady Bucs edged by West Alabama despite late rally

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Christian Brothers University women's basketball staged a spirited fourth-quarter rally but ultimately fell short in a 74-69 defeat to the University of West Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Pruitt Hall.

The Lady Buccaneers (0-23, 0-18 GSC) trailed by as many as 17 points in the third quarter but used an 11-0 run late in the fourth to cut the deficit to six before West Alabama (4-19, 4-15 GSC) secured the win at the free-throw line.

Hood Shines in Scoring Display

Senior guard Jada Hood delivered a standout performance, pouring in a game-high 30 points on 8-for-16 shooting from beyond the arc. She added seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists, keeping CBU within striking distance throughout the contest.

Valencia McFall contributed 12 points and five rebounds, while SeQuoia Carroll added nine points and six boards.

Cold Start, Strong Finish

Christian Brothers struggled offensively early, shooting just 26.3% in the first quarter as West Alabama jumped out to a 21-15 lead. The Buccaneers improved in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to five at halftime, 36-31.

West Alabama controlled the paint throughout the game, outscoring CBU 40-28 inside. The Tigers used a 7-0 run early in the third to stretch their lead to 57-44 heading into the final quarter.

Fourth-Quarter Fightback

Christian Brothers erupted for 25 points in the fourth, sparked by Hood's three-point shooting. The Buccaneers trimmed the deficit to four at 68-64 with 1:16 remaining after Hood drained her fourth three-pointer of the quarter. A pull up jumper made by Lamonnie Owens and a pair of free throws by Hood tied the score with eight ticks to go. West Alabama's Kaedre Denson responded with a quick basket before the rest of the damage was done at the charity stripe.

Despite the defeat, CBU won the second-chance battle 19-12 and forced 16 West Alabama turnovers.
