CBU puts best foot forward at 2025 GSC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Christian Brothers University men's and women's track & field teams competed at the 2025 Gulf South Conference Indoor Championships on Thursday and Friday. They combined for 15 personal records and 13 season-best marks ranging across nearly all of the events on offer at the meet.

Joseph Heinz earned five points for the men's team in the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.49 seconds. He finished one spot away from the podium in fourth place. Meanwhile, Gioia Scopel came in sixth place in the women's 60m hurdles with a season-best mark of 9.16 seconds to earn three points for CBU.

Scopel earned three more points for the Lady Bucs in the high jump with another season-best mark. She leaped 1.55m which was good enough for another sixth-place finish.

In the men's 1 mile, Ethan Ackroyd set a new personal record of 4:08.97 to pick up four points for the Bucs. His PR time placed him 65th in the 2025 NCAA DII College Indoor Rankings.

Teamwork was where both teams excelled at the GSC Indoor Championships. The CBU men's and women's teams combined for 18 points in the four relay events. The women's 4x400m relay team, men's distance medley team and the women's distance medley team all achieved fourth-place finishes. The men's 4x400m relay team finished sixth, but ran a season-best time of 3:21.45 which ranked them 77th in the 2025 NCAA DII College Indoor Rankings. The men's distance medley time of 10:11.25 ranked 38th while the women's distance medley time of 12:55.76 ranked 78th in the 2025 NCAA DII College Indoor Rankings.
