Battling to the Buzzer: CBU Shows Fight in Home Game

Memphis, TN- Christian Brothers University with a gritty performance in their second home game of the year, pushing Valdosta State deep into the second half before falling 75–69 Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena. Despite the final score, the Buccaneers showed toughness, balance, and promising flashes that set a strong foundation moving forward.

CBU stayed within striking distance all game in a contest that featured 10 lead changes and five ties. After trailing 34–30 at halftime, the Buccaneers came out firing in the second half, shooting an impressive 62.1 percent from the field and outscoring Valdosta State 39–41 over the final 20 minutes.

Iman Kheirati led the way with 19 points, consistently attacking the basket and knocking down free throws to keep CBU close late. Marquis Gill added 16 points and dished out five assists, providing steady leadership and energy on both ends of the floor. Caleb Gaitor chipped in 19 points of his own, shooting efficiently and knocking down timely buckets as the Buccaneers made multiple runs.

CBU also won the battle on the glass when it mattered, scoring 12 second-chance points and matching Valdosta State's physicality in the paint. The Buccaneers showed resilience after Valdosta State built a 13-point lead midway through the second half, cutting the deficit to just four points in the final minute and forcing the Blazers to execute down the stretch.

The effort, shot-making, and fight displayed by CBU were clear positives. With balanced scoring, improved second-half efficiency, and the ability to respond to adversity, the Buccaneers showed they are close and poised to turn performances like this into wins as the season progresses.
