Memphis, TN- Christian Brothers University put together an encouraging performance Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena, despite a 73–53 setback to Valdosta State.
The Buccaneers showed flashes of what they are capable of, especially coming out of halftime. After a challenging second quarter, CBU responded with its best stretch of the game in the third, outscoring Valdosta State 25–24. The Buccaneers shot an impressive 68.8 percent from the field in the period, moving the ball well and attacking the paint with confidence.
Donee' Frazier led the charge with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 19 points while battling inside and converting at the free-throw line. Anastasija Cernova provided a spark on the perimeter, knocking down key three-pointers and finishing with 13 points, while also pulling down rebounds and creating second-chance opportunities. Mariah Curley and Alice Conrad helped set the tone defensively, combining for steals, assists, and steady ball pressure.
CBU matched Valdosta State on the glass with 40 rebounds and earned nine second-chance points, a sign of the team's effort and physicality. Defensively, the Buccaneers forced 21 turnovers, turning defense into transition opportunities and keeping the pressure on throughout the game.
While the final score didn't reflect the full story, the energy, third-quarter response, and balanced contributions across the roster stood out. With a strong foundation, visible fight, and promising chemistry already developing, the Buccaneers showed plenty of positives to build on as the season moves forward.
