New Year Home Opener Shows Promise Despite Tough Test

Memphis, TN- Christian Brothers opened the 2026 year with a tough challenge on Thursday night, falling 80–62 to West Florida at Canale Arena. Despite the final score, the Lady Buccaneers showed plenty of fight and flashes of promise in the home opener.

CBU settled into the game after a slow first quarter and responded with its best stretch before halftime. The Buccaneers outscored West Florida 20–16 in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to just three points at the break and showing improved ball movement and energy on both ends of the floor.

Donee' Frazier led the way offensively for CBU with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 16 points while attacking the paint and drawing contact. Alice Conrad added a team-high 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, providing steady scoring and a presence on the glass. Amani Lipscomb chipped in with 10 points and brought energy defensively, while the Buccaneers also got solid contributions from multiple players throughout the rotation.

West Florida used a productive third quarter to create separation, capitalizing on transition opportunities and timely shooting. Still, CBU continued to compete through the final frame, scoring 18 points in the fourth quarter and battling until the final horn.

While the result didn't go the Buccaneers' way, the 2026 home opener offered encouraging signs, especially in stretches where CBU played with pace, shared the ball, and controlled the paint. With the first game of the year under their belt, the Buccaneers will look to build on the positives as they move forward into the heart of the season.
