Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Fast Start, Strong Finish, CBU Statement Win

Memphis, TN- Christian Brothers University set the tone early and never let it slip, powering past Union (Tenn.) 70–66 on Monday night inside Canale Arena with confidence and edge.

From the opening tip, CBU played with urgency. The Buccaneers raced out to a dominant first half, using defensive pressure, second-chance points, and quick-strike offense to build a commanding 36–23 halftime lead. The ball moved crisply, the energy was high, and the home crowd fed off every hustle play as CBU controlled the pace for nearly the entire half.

Marquis Gill led the charge with a poised and aggressive performance, finishing with 22 points while consistently answering Union runs. Iman Kheirati was everywhere, stuffing the stat sheet with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and timely plays on both ends that steadied the Buccaneers when momentum wavered. Nigel Quaynor added a physical presence inside, pulling down key rebounds and providing valuable minutes in the paint.

Union made things interesting after the break, cutting into the deficit with a strong second half, but CBU never panicked. Each push from the visitors was met with a response, whether it was a tough bucket, a defensive stop, or a critical rebound. Turner Duncan provided an instant spark off the bench, while Max Cain and Caleb Gaitor helped keep the offense flowing with unselfish play.

Down the stretch, CBU showed composure. Smart decisions, timely baskets, and grit on the glass sealed the win, as the Buccaneers led for more than 37 minutes of game time and finished the night with a 47.5 percent shooting effort.

It was not just a win, it was a tone-setter. Monday night made one thing clear, the Buccaneers are ready to compete.
