Memphis, TN- Christian Brothers battled until the final second on the road Wednesday night but narrowly fell 54–53 to AUM in a tightly contested Gulf South matchup at the AUM Athletics Complex.
The Buccaneers showed toughness from the opening tip and controlled the tempo early, closing the first half on a 10–0 run to take a 29–26 lead into the break. CBU capitalized on transition opportunities and second chance points, keeping pressure on AUM despite shooting challenges from the perimeter.
Iman Kheirati was a force all night, leading CBU with 16 points and a game high 15 rebounds. His effort on the glass repeatedly gave the Buccaneers extra possessions and kept them within striking distance down the stretch. Marquis Gill added 11 points and knocked down a clutch three pointer late in the second half to tie the game at 53 with under two minutes remaining. Caleb Gaitor contributed eight points, five rebounds, and five assists while playing the full 40 minutes and anchoring the offense.
The second half saw momentum swing back and forth with four lead changes and four ties. Christian Brothers erased a 13 point deficit midway through the half and even took the lead late on a fast break dunk by Nigel Quaynor, highlighting the Buccaneers' relentless fight.
AUM ultimately sealed the game at the free throw line with just over a minute remaining. CBU had a final look at the buzzer, but the attempt rolled off, ending a hard fought one point loss.
Despite the result, the performance reflected growth and resilience from the Buccaneers, who matched AUM in points in the paint and outworked the Warhawks on the boards. Christian Brothers will look to build on this effort as conference play continues.
