The Christian Brothers University softball team played three games on the road against Delta State on March 6th & 8th. The Buccaneers dropped the first two games before finishing the series with a strong win in the finale.
Game 1 – March 6
Delta State 9, Christian Brothers 1
Delta State pulled away early and defeated Christian Brothers 9–1 in six innings.
The Statesmen scored four runs in the second inning and added another in the third to build a 5–0 lead. They continued to add runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to extend the advantage.
Christian Brothers scored its only run in the fourth inning. Kate Candies crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Abby Drabek.
Candies and Mackenzie Gieseler each recorded two hits for the Buccaneers, while McKenzie Shinabery and Dakota Davis added one hit each.
Emily Schooler started in the circle and took the loss, pitching three innings. Vivian Watts worked the final 2.2 innings in relief.
Game 2 – March 6
Delta State 11, Christian Brothers 7
Christian Brothers had a big offensive inning but could not hold the lead in an 11–7 loss.
Delta State jumped ahead 6–0 through the first three innings. The Buccaneers answered with a seven-run fourth inning to take a 7–6 lead.
During the rally, Abby Drabek, Kamryn Neely, Ashley Williamson, Marin Beeson, and Katelyn Harmon each drove in runs. Mandie Barrow added a two-run double, and another run scored on a wild pitch.
Delta State responded quickly with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead and later added three more runs in the sixth inning.
Christian Brothers finished with six hits in the game. Barrow, Drabek, Shinabery, Candies, Williamson, and Gieseler each recorded a hit.
Lily Hurley started in the circle and pitched five innings, while Schooler worked one inning in relief.
Game 3 – March 8
Christian Brothers 4, Delta State 3
The Buccaneers closed the series with a 4–3 victory behind a strong pitching performance from Emily Schooler.
Christian Brothers scored three runs in the third inning. Marin Beeson drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, Katelyn Harmon followed with an RBI bunt single, and Kate Candies added another RBI single.
The Buccaneers added what proved to be the winning run in the fourth inning when Beeson drove in Abby Drabek on a groundout.
Delta State scored three runs in the fourth inning, but Schooler settled in and kept the Statesmen scoreless the rest of the way. She pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits while striking out six.
Christian Brothers finished with six hits in the win. Harmon, Candies, Drabek, Shinabery, Barrow, and Ashley Williamson each recorded a hit.
The victory moved the Buccaneers to 5–15–1 overall and 1–8 in Gulf South Conference play.
