Livingston, AL- The Christian Brothers men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to West Alabama on Thursday afternoon at the Vaughan Tennis Complex in Livingston, Alabama.
CBU found itself in an early hole after being swept in doubles play. The Buccaneers were unable to secure a point in any of the three doubles flights, giving West Alabama a 1-0 lead heading into singles competition.
In singles play, Christian Brothers battled but came up short in the top of the lineup, dropping matches at the No. 1 through No. 4 positions. Those results allowed West Alabama to clinch the team victory before the final two matches concluded.
The Buccaneers continued to fight at the bottom of the lineup, however, with strong performances in the No. 5 Ernesto Pico and No. 6 Ebolum Nwokolo spots. Both players earned straight victories to account for CBU's two points on the day, preventing a sweep and closing the match on a positive note.
With the loss, Christian Brothers moves to 4-9 on the season. The Buccaneers will look to build on the momentum from their late singles wins as they continue conference play.
