MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Chris Tadley era officially has its first victory.
Christian Brothers University women's soccer used a dominant second-half performance to rally past King University, 3-2, on Saturday, giving Tadley his first victory as head coach of the Buccaneers.
CBU improved to 1-1 on the season with the victory after scoring all three of its goals in the second half. The Buccaneers finished the contest with a 19-7 advantage in shots, including a 14-1 edge in the second half. CBU also put 10 shots on goal.
King opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Ella Froehlich found the back of the net, sending the Buccaneers into halftime trailing 1-0.
CBU responded quickly after the break.
Karis Klindtworth brought the Buccaneers level in the 52nd minute with her first goal of the season. Less than 10 minutes later, Ellen Gaudry gave CBU its first lead of the afternoon, scoring in the 61st minute off an assist from Lola Alonso.
The Buccaneers continued to apply pressure, and Cristal Tellez provided what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 68th minute. Emma Browning picked up the assist as CBU pushed its advantage to 3-1.
King pulled one back in the 82nd minute, but the Buccaneers held on over the closing minutes to secure the 3-2 victory.
Goalkeeper Kaylee Allen earned the victory in goal for CBU, recording two saves over 90 minutes.
The win marks an early milestone for a CBU program beginning a new chapter under Tadley. After entering halftime behind, the Buccaneers responded with three second-half goals and controlled much of the final 45 minutes to deliver their new head coach his first victory at Christian Brothers.
