CLINTON, Miss. — Christian Brothers University Volleyball continued its rebuilding process Tuesday night, showing improvement throughout the match despite falling in three sets to Mississippi Christian.
The Buccaneers dropped the match 25-15, 25-20 and 25-22, but the progression from set to set provided a positive takeaway. After scoring 15 points in the opening frame, CBU pushed to 20 in the second before battling Mississippi Christian to a tight 25-22 third set.
Alana Martinez helped lead the CBU attack with seven kills and nine digs, while Alma Solis delivered an efficient performance with five kills and just one error on 12 attacks, hitting .333.
Sophia Nowacki anchored the defense with 19 digs, while Emma Pomaret contributed 14 assists. The Bucs finished with 52 digs as a team and recorded four solo blocks.
For CBU, the focus remains on growth and finding consistency under Head Coach Lashaunda Spurgeon. With a team continuing to learn and develop together, the third-set battle showed the type of fight the Bucs will look to carry forward.
The turnaround is a process, and CBU will continue working to turn those competitive stretches into complete performances as Gulf South Conference play moves forward.
