BOLIVAR, Mo. – Christian Brothers University volleyball battled through a demanding four-match weekend at the Meyer Sports Center, finishing the tournament with a 1-3 record.
The Bucs opened the weekend with a strong 3-1 victory, overcoming a slow start before taking control of the match. CBU finished with 54 kills, 52 assists, 75 digs and 10 total blocks while hitting .230 as a team.
CBU continued the tournament with a five-set battle, eventually falling 3-2 after pushing the match to the final set. The Bucs won the second and fourth sets and took the third set 27-25 before coming up short in the deciding set. CBU recorded 49 kills, 48 assists, 101 digs and eight total blocks in the match.
In the third match of the weekend, CBU again went the distance in a five-set contest. The Bucs won the second and third sets, including a 25-20 second-set victory and a 25-20 third set, before dropping the final two sets. CBU finished with 56 kills, 54 assists, 110 digs and 10 total blocks.
CBU closed tournament play Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 setback, falling 25-22, 25-11 and 25-13. Despite the result, the Bucs continued to compete throughout the match, finishing with 25 kills, 24 assists, 43 digs, three aces and four blocks.
Alana Martinez led the Bucs offensively in the final match with eight kills, while Ana Sacca added six and Addison Waggoner recorded four. Waggoner also contributed two aces, while Sophia Nowacki added one. Sarah Helms, Alma Solis and Waggoner each contributed to CBU's blocking effort, with Helms and Solis recording two blocks apiece.
Emma Pomaret led CBU with 12 assists, while Carleiny Morillo added eight and Nowacki finished with three. Nowacki, Pomaret and Martinez each recorded seven or more digs, providing defensive contributions throughout the match.
Across four matches, the Bucs showed resilience and competed through several tightly contested sets, including two five-set matches. CBU will look to carry that experience forward as the season continues.
