Bret Marks is in his first season coaching at CBU after he spent the last two seasons as a player in the New York Yankees organization.
The Yankees drafted Marks in the MLB Amateur Draft. In 2012, he was a 22nd-round pick from Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala., and after pitching at Tennessee for two years, he was selected in the 15th round of the 2015 draft.
In two years at Wallace State, Marks went 19-9 with a 1.80 ERA. A two-time All-Conference selection, he was the first Wallace Stateplayer to win Conference Pitcher of the Year and Northern Division Player of the Year.
After graduating from Wallace State in 2013, Marks attended Tenessee. As a junior in 2014, he worked primarily in the bullpen. After the season, he led the Alaskan Summer League in strikeouts while pitching for Anchorage Bucs.
As a senior, Marks finished second in the SEC with 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings and a .202 opponents' batting average. The Volunteers Pitcher of the Year, he also earned SEC Pitcher of the Week and led UT to back-to-back SEC Tournament berths.
An Atlanta native, he graduated from Tennessee in 2015 with a degree in Communications.
