John T. Reilly | Head Men's Basketball Coach
John T. Reilly enters his eighth season as head coach of the Christian Brothers University men's basketball program in 2026-27, continuing a coaching career that has spanned more than three decades at the collegiate level.
Since arriving at CBU in 2019, Reilly has continued to build his teams around defense, rebounding and student-athlete development. One of the program's strongest seasons under Reilly came in 2023-24, when the Buccaneers finished 17-11 overall and recorded 15 Gulf South Conference victories, the most conference wins for CBU since joining the GSC in 1996-97.
The Buccaneers finished the 2025-26 season with a 5-21 overall record and a 4-18 mark in GSC play. Despite the record, CBU continued to show the rebounding identity that has followed Reilly throughout his career. The Bucs averaged 38.2 rebounds per game compared to 33.8 for their opponents.
Reilly earned his 500th career victory on Dec. 18, 2022, with a victory over Montevallo at Canale Arena. Before CBU, he spent 14 seasons as head coach at Gannon University, where he became the winningest coach in program history with a 242-162 record. He led Gannon to two PSAC Tournament Championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by a 30-4 campaign and NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearance in 2008-09.
Prior to Gannon, Reilly spent 12 seasons at Brescia University, compiling a 232-145 record. His teams posted winning records in 10 of his 12 seasons and recorded five 20-win campaigns. Reilly has coached numerous All-Americans, Academic All-Americans and all-conference selections during his career and has twice earned NABC Atlantic Region Coach of the Year honors.
A native of Bowie, Maryland, Reilly played collegiately at Bowie State University, where he was a two-year starter. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Bowie State in 1986 and a Master of Science from Gannon University in 1989.
Reilly credits much of his success throughout his coaching career to his family. He and his wife, Donna MacAskill, have one daughter, Kirsten Reilly.
