Dietrich played club soccer for Jackson Futball Club, where he was a state champion, and high school soccer at Madison Academic High School in Jackson, Tenn. As a freshman, Dietrich helped lead Madison Academic to a semi-final appearance in the state tournament. Following his senior year, he was named to the First Team All West Tennessee and First Team All-District. While he was a freshman at Bethel, Jacob started his assistant coaching career for his former high school. While there, he helped the team make multiple runs in the state tournament. He then spent a short time helping coach the goalkeepers at Bethel, before moving to Memphis to continue his education at the University of Memphis.
