Demarquis Howell | Assistant Director of Athletics for Communication

Demarquis Howell enters the 2026-27 academic year as Assistant Director of Athletics for Communication at Christian Brothers University, overseeing the communications and digital media efforts for the Buccaneers' NCAA Division II athletic programs.

Since arriving at CBU, Howell has worked to expand the department's overall digital presence and storytelling efforts while overseeing athletic communications, statistics, media relations, website content, social media and game-day coverage. He also plays a key role in CBU's live-streaming operations and the promotion of Buccaneer student-athletes, coaches and programs.

During the 2025-26 academic year, Howell provided communications coverage for a department that saw several notable accomplishments. Men's soccer returned to the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament, while volleyball made its first postseason appearance in more than eight years and earned a GSC Tournament victory. CBU student-athletes also continued to earn conference, regional and academic recognition across multiple sports.

Howell has placed an increased emphasis on student-athlete storytelling and original digital content. CBU Athletics expanded its use of short-form video, behind-the-scenes features, interviews and student-athlete spotlights while also developing Keeping It a Buc, a podcast designed to give Buccaneer student-athletes and coaches another platform to share their stories.

His work also includes overseeing and improving CBU Athletics' historical records. Howell serves as a point of contact for the department's ongoing effort to expand its record books, recover missing historical statistics and preserve previous CBU media guides and athletic accomplishments.

Beyond traditional athletic communications, Howell has worked to strengthen CBU's approach to sponsorship activation, game-day promotion and community engagement, creating additional opportunities to connect Buccaneer Athletics with students, alumni, fans and organizations throughout the Memphis community.

Howell also oversees and develops student workers and graduate assistants within Athletic Communications, providing students with hands-on experience in sports information, statistics, photography, videography, social media, live production and game-day operations.

Before joining Christian Brothers, Howell gained collegiate athletic communications experience at Alabama A&M University, working within an NCAA Division I athletics environment and assisting with sports information responsibilities.

A native of New Bern, North Carolina, Howell continues to focus on growing the visibility of CBU Athletics while creating professional-level coverage that highlights the accomplishments and stories of Buccaneer student-athletes.

Howell and his family reside in the Memphis area.
