PENSACOLA, Fla.—No. 2 West Florida scored three goals in a five-minute span early in the second half to blow open what had been a tie game as they won 4-1 over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bucs (7-4-1, 1-2-1 GSC) struck first in the ninth minute as
Colleen McDaniel (Cullman, Ala./Cullman HS) scored on an
Elin Svavarsdottir (Reykjavík, Iceland/Menntaskolinn vid Hamrahlid) corner kick, giving the Lady Bucs a 1-0 lead on the first shot of the game for either team.
The Argos (12-0-1, 3-0-0), equalized the game in the 21st minute with the first of three Shaneka Gordon goals. They kept the pressure on CBU keeper
Libby Hake (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury HS), who made six first-half saves to keep the Lady Bucs tied 1-1 despite being out-shot 10-1 for the half.
The Argos broke through 10 minutes into the second half as Noha Saleh scored in the 55th minute. Gordon scored her second goal in the 57th minute, and she made it a hat trick in the 60th minute to set the final margin.
For the game, UWF out-shot CBU 18-2, including a 12-1 edge in shots on goal as Hake finished with eight saves.
The Lady Bucs will step out of GSC play for the final time next weekend as they visit Northeastern State (Okla.) Friday afternoon and Hendrix Sunday afternoon.
