Box Score FLORENCE, Ala.—Host North Alabama outscored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 35-9 over the final 16 minutes as they picked up a 69-55 win in non-conference play Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Bucs (2-3) dominated the first 24 minutes, building a 10-point lead in the first half and taking a 46-34 lead on a
Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) basket with 16:29 remaining in the game, but the wheels came off over the final 16 minutes.
During the 35-9 UNA (4-2) run, the Lady Bucs shot 4-of-21 (19.0 percent) from the floor with nine turnovers, and they were out-rebounded 19-11. The Lady Bucs went 7:27 between points, as UNA turned a 51-45 CBU lead into a 63-51 Lion lead with the decisive 18-0 burst.
For the game, both teams shot poorly from the field, with the Lady Bucs shooting 23-of-58 (39.7 percent) to the Lions' 21-of-57 (36.8 percent). Both teams shot 40 percent from three-point range.
Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg) led the Lady Bucs with 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Tanaeya Worden (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North HS) added 11.
Amber Rutherford paced UNA with game-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds, leading foru Lions who scored in double figures. Jameica York had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Brianna Abrams scored 13, while Ashley Moore tacked on 10 off the bench.
The two key differences in the game were turnovers and free throws, where the Lions out-scored the Lady Bucs by 20 points. UNA was 21-of-25 (84 percent) at the free throw line, while the Lady Bucs made one of their three attempts. The Lady Bucs lost the turnover battle by nine, forcing just nine against their 18 committed.
The Lady Bucs will try to snap their three-game skid Saturday night at 5 p.m. as they visit Alabama-Huntsville.
