Lady Bucs Edge Lady Chargers 70-66

Tameka Wooten posted her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Bucs won 70-66 at Alabama-Huntsville Saturday.
Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs snapped a three-game skid with a 70-66 win at Alabama-Huntsville Saturday night.

The Lady Bucs (3-3) never trailed after the first 10 minutes of the game, but they were never able to pull away from UAH (1-5).  Late in the first half, it appeared they would do just that, going on a 13-3 run to take a 32-21 lead on an Erin Nigh (Morristown, Ind./Morristown HS) three-pointer with 5:04 remaining in the first half.

The Lady Chargers, however, closed the half on a 10-0 run to pull within a point, and the Lady Bucs never led by more than seven points again.

UAH trimmed the lead back to a point at 58-57 with 3:07 remaining as Diana Alsbrook sank a jumper in the paint, but junior guard Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) would score the next five points, and UAH never had the ball with a chance to take the lead again.  Wooten buried a three-pointer with 2:49 remaining, and she followed that with a steal and a fastbreak layup with 2:11 to go.

Despite being the shortest player on either team at 5-4, Wooten turned in a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and three assists.  Tanaeya Worden (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North HS) had a career-high eight assists to go with 14 points and five rebounds, while Michelle Malone (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) also scored 14.  Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg) came off the bench to score 10 points.

Diana Alsbrook led the Lady Chargers with 19 points in 18 minutes off the bench.  Ashley Boykin scored 18, while Renita Lewis added 10.

The Lady Bucs' defense turned in a strong performance, holding UAH to just 34.3 percent (23-of-67) from the floor, while the Lady Bucs were 50 percent (27-of-54).

The Lady Bucs will try to make it two in a row when they come home Tuesday night at 5 p.m. to take on West Alabama.
