Lady Bucs' Rally Falls Short 50-49

Sheena DeBose scored 18 points, but the Lady Bucs dropped a 50-49 decision to Southern Arkansas.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit, but the comeback fell just short in a 50-49 loss to Southern Arkansas Thursday night in Gulf South Conference West Division play.

The Lady Muleriders (8-11, 2-4 GSC West) opened the game on a 12-2 run and kept the lead between four and 10 points the rest of the first half.  They built the lead back to 10 at 31-21 with 16:47 remaining in the game, but the Lady Bucs (8-11, 1-5) answered with an 18-7 run to take their first lead on a Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg) layup with 10:05 to play.

It would be the Lady Bucs' only lead, as SAU answered with five straight points.  A Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) three-pointer knotted the game at 48-all with 4:25 remaining, and SAU's Goldie White answered with a bucket with 3:52 to play, putting SAU ahead for good.  Neither team scored until Butler made one of two free throws with 19 seconds remaining to halve the lead.  The Lady Bucs had two more chances, but they committed a turnover and missed another free throw.

Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) scored 18 points, two shy of her season high, and grabbed seven rebounds in 27 minutes.  Shelton added 12 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.

Kmaria Hobbs led SAU with 16 points, while Shardae Thompson scored 11.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action Saturday as they visit No. 20 Arkansas Tech at 4 p.m.
