Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala.—Host West Alabama built an 18-point lead early in the second half and held on for a 75-68 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon at Pruitt Hall.
The Tigers (5-8) never trailed, building a 10-point lead in the first six minutes. They stretched it out to 18 three different times in the second half, finally at 63-45 with 8:34 remaining.
The Lady Bucs (6-6) went on an 18-2 run over the next four minutes, trimming the lead to 65-63 on a
Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) three-pointer with 4:22 to play, but they could come no closer as UWA ended the game on an 8-3 run.
Wooten led the Lady Bucs with 15 points, while
Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg) moved into the top 10 on CBU's career scoring list with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Shelton is now in 10th place with 1,145 points, four behind ninth-place Tina Warhurst, who played from 1991-95. She passed Monica House (1986-90), who had been in 10th place with 1,137.
Danielle Baldwin led UWA with 20 points, while Valerie Harris scored 18. Jenni Thomley scored 11, and Keiara Middleton tacked on 11.
The Lady Bucs lost for the first time this year when winning the rebounding battle, 44-42, but they committed 19 turnovers while forcing 16. UWA shot 47.6 percent (30-of-63) from the floor to the Lady Bucs' 37.8 percent (28-of-74).
The Lady Bucs will try to right the ship Monday night when they come home to take on Alabama-Huntsville at 5 p.m. in their final non-conference game of the season.
