EADS—
Sydney Homewood (Oakville, Ontario, Iroquois Ridge HS) scored a goal in the final minute of the first half to lift the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs four places up the Gulf South Conference table with a 1-0 win over Ouachita Baptist Wednesday night at Briarcrest High School.
After the Lady Bucs (7-4-1, 2-2 GSC) failed to convert several strong chances in the first half,
Kelsey LaBarreare (Eads, Tenn./Briarcrest HS) fed a through ball to Homewood, who found the net just 48 seconds before halftime for the game's only goal.
The Lady Bucs kept the pressure on all night, holding a 16-7 edge in shots on goal, but Ouachita (5-7, 2-3) goalkeeper Whitley Hoppe made seven saves to keep it a one-goal margin.
Christina Barone (Phoenix, Ariz./Cactus Shadows HS) made three saves for the Lady Bucs as she picked up her second shutout of the season.
The win lifted the Lady Bucs from seventh place in the GSC to third with four points. No. 1 West Florida and No. 23 North Alabama are tied for first place with 10 points. The Lady Bucs are tied with Alabama-Huntsville and Ouachita Baptist for third place with four points, but the Lady Bucs have a game in hand on both. West Georgia and Harding sit in a tie for sixth place with three points.
The Lady Bucs finish their regular season with four road games. They visit Harding Sunday at 1 p.m. before finishing the GSC schedule with trips to Alabama-Huntsville next Wednesday and West Georgia next Saturday. The Lady Bucs finish the regular season with a non-conference game at Rhodes Nov. 3.
