SEARCY, Ark.—For the second time this week, a
Sydney Homewood (Oakville, Ontario, Iroquois Ridge HS) goal and a
Christina Barone (Phoenix, Ariz., Cactus Shadows HS) shutout lifted the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs to a 1-0 Gulf South Conference victory, this time Sunday afternoon at Harding.
Homewood's 83rd-minute score, off a
Mallory Geraci (New Orleans, La./Mount Carmel Academy) cross, broke a scoreless tie and kept the Lady Bucs (8-4-1, 3-2 GSC) in third place in the GSC heading into the season's final week.
Barone made a season-high eight saves as she collected her third shutout in her last four appearances.
The Lady Bucs were out-shot 13-7, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.
Heading into the season's final week, No. 1 West Florida has clinched the top seed, while No. 23 North Alabama has the second seed wrapped up. The Lady Bucs are tied with Alabama-Huntsville for the third spot with six points each, with West Georgia a point behind in fifth. The Lady Bucs are the only team with two games remaining as they visit UAH Wednesday at noon and they head to UWG Saturday at noon.
