HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—Host Alabama-Huntsville clinched the No. 3 seed in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs.
The Lady Chargers (9-6, 4-3 GSC) struck first in the 54th minute as Devin Newman scored off a rebound of a Cady Reisman shot. Amber Cryer tacked on an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute, and
Anna Laskarzewska (Edmonton, Alberta/Archbishop O'Leary) scored in the 81st minute for the Lady Bucs (8-5-1, 3-3).
Christina Barone (Phoenix, Ariz./Cactus Shadows HS) continued her strong play, making eight saves for the second straight game as the Lady Bucs were out-shot 20-4, including a 10-3 margin in shots on goal.
The Lady Bucs' GSC Tournament hopes come down to Saturday's game at West Georgia. With a win or tie, the Lady Bucs would clinch the tournament's fourth seed and face No. 1 West Florida, while a West Georgia win would send the Wolves to the GSC Tournament as the fourth seed. Kickoff Saturday in Carrollton, Ga., is at 1 p.m. Eastern, noon central.
