COLLIERVILLE—The combination of Nikki Brown and Chloe Roberts combined for both goals as No. 24 North Alabama edged the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 2-1 in double overtime Tuesday night in a key Gulf South Conference game at Collierville High School.
Roberts scored the game's first goal in the 30th minute when she converted on a Brown cross to put the Lions (11-1-1, 3-0 GSC) ahead 1-0. The Lady Bucs (6-3-0, 1-1) knotted the game in the 38th minute as
Caitlyn Donegan (Thibodaux, La./E.D. White HS) scored her eighth goal of the season off a cross from
Laurel Shute (Knoxville, Tenn./West HS).
The game remained 1-1 the rest of regulation and through the first overtime, but Roberts scored the game-winner, her 20th of the season, in the 104th minute when she scored off the rebound of a Brown shot.
The Lions out-shot CBU 20-18, with both teams taking nine shots on goal.
Libby Hake (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury HS) returned to the net for the Lady Bucs, making six saves, while Alex McLay made eight stops for the Lions.
The Lady Bucs conclude a treacherous week Saturday afternoon at 12:30 as they welcome defending national runner-up West Florida, the nation's top-ranked team, to Collierville for another GSC game.
