Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rallied from a 17-point deficit with 11:29 remaining to force overtime, but host LeMoyne-Owen picked up a 98-93 overtime win over the Lady Bucs.
The Lady Bucs (0-1) took control early, taking a 6-2 lead and expanding it to 14-6 on a
Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) fastbreak layup with 13:59 remaining in the first half, but the Lady Magicians (1-1) answered with a 17-5 run to take the lead.
After both teams traded small leads for three minutes, LeMoyne-Owen went on a 23-8 run sparked by 11 points from Shonice Sprouse, to pull away for a 51-35 lead with 17:44 remaining.
The Lady Magicians led by as much as 17 points, at 60-43 on a Sprouse layup with 11:29 remaining, but DeBose and
Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) responded with an 8-0 run to pull the Lady Bucs within nine with 8:27 remaining. From there, the Lady Bucs slowly chipped away at the lead, finally tying the game with 4.1 seconds remaining as DeBose scored a fastbreak layup for the game's second tie at 81-81.
Neither team led by more than two points in overtime until LOC's Ryan Herd converted a three-point play with 41 seconds to play, giving the Lady Magicians a 95-90 lead. From there, Tangela Albright sank three free throws to salt the game away for LOC.
Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) led the Lady Bucs with 23 points and six assists, while Ellis had 21 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks, and three steals. DeBose had 16 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, while
Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) scored 19 points with six assists.
Sprouce scored a game-high 32 for LeMoyne-Owen, while Amber Johnson added 27.
The Lady Bucs return to the court Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they take on Lane in their home opener.
