Lady Bucs Pull Away from UNA 69-48

Sheena DeBose scored 13 points with eight rebounds as the Lady Bucs rolled to a 69-48 win over North Alabama Saturday afternoon.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs used a 29-8 run over a six and a half-minute stretch late in the second half as they pulled away for a 69-48 win over visiting North Alabama Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bucs (4-1) had led for most of the game, but a Niala Harris layup pulled the Lions (3-5) within two at 37-35 with 12:21 remaining.  Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) scored back-to-back buckets to spark the run for the Lady Bucs, and a Katie Hume (Memphis, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) triple capped the run to give CBU a 66-43 lead with 5:29 remaining.

The Lady Bucs leaned heavily on a six-player rotation for most of the game, and all six turned in strong performances.  Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) scored a game-high 16 points and had seven assists and five rebounds with just one turnover.  Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) had 13 points, eight rebounds, and three steals in 29 minutes, while Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) added 12 points.  Hume tacked on 10, while Ellis grabbed 12 rebounds and swatted six shots to go with nine points.  Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) added six points off the bench.

Sanqueeta Meardith led UNA with 13 points.

The Lady Bucs continued their stifling defense, holding UNA to just 27.6 percent (16-of-58) from the floor and 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from three-point range.  CBU shot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from the floor and 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from three-point range.  The Lady Bucs out-rebounded UNA 39-38 and forced 14 turnovers while committing 12.

The Lady Bucs return to the court Monday night at 5 p.m. as they host Alabama-Huntsville.
