Huge Second Half Lifts Lady Bucs to Victory, 77-60

Tameka Wooten scored a career-high 26 points as the Lady Bucs rallied for a 77-60 win over Alabama-Huntsville Monday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs out-scored visiting Alabama-Huntsville 58-25 over the final 21 minutes as they won 77-60 Monday night after trailing 35-19 in the last minute of the first half.

The Lady Chargers (2-4) opened the game with a 15-0 run in the first five minutes, and they kept their lead between eight and 16 points the rest of the first half.  A three-pointer by Morgan Crawley with 1:43 remaining in the first half gave them a 35-19 lead, but the Lady Bucs (5-1) began their comeback soon afterwards.

Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) and Katie Hume (Memphis, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) made back-to-back three-pointers in the final minute of the first half to cut the lead to 10.  A three-point play from Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) and a layup by Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) capped an 11-0 run that drew the Lady Bucs within five points at 35-30 with 17:43 remaining.

The Lady Bucs kept chipping away at the lead, and another Wooten three-pointer sparked a 23-2 run that put them ahead for good.  Wooten knocked down a three with 11:11 remaining in the game to trim the lead to 46-43.  Wooten knocked down another jumper, from the left baseline, to end the run with CBU leading 63-48 with 3:53 remaining.

Wooten scored a career-high 26 points with four assists and two steals, while Johnson and Ellis added 16 points each.  Johnson also had a career-high 12 assists with six rebounds and four steals.  DeBose shattered her career high with 15 rebounds to go with nine points.

Marissa Carter led UAH with 13 points, while Monica Boatwright added 12.

The Lady Bucs shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) for the game, while UAH was 40 percent (20-of-50), including 29.6 percent (8-of-27) in the second half.

CBU held a 36-30 edge on the boards, including a 10-9 margin on the offensive glass, and they forced 22 turnovers while committing 18.

The Lady Bucs return to Canale Arena Saturday at 2 p.m. against Blue Mountain.
