Lady Bucs Outlast UWA 59-58 in Double-OT

Sheena DeBose scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Lady Bucs won 59-58 in double-overtime at West Alabama Saturday.
Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rallied from a 13-point deficit with eight minutes left as they won 59-58 in double-overtime at West Alabama Saturday evening.

The Lady Bucs' hopes looked dim with 8:06 remaining in regulation, when Qweeta Ward made a layup that put West Alabama (2-5) ahead by a 41-28 margin, capping a 9-2 run that seemingly put the game out of reach.

But the Lady Bucs (7-1) answered with a 20-6 run, taking a 48-47 lead when Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) scored on a layup with 3:13 remaining.  UWA's Erin Courington made a three-pointer to put the Tigers back in front, but a Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) basket with 2:18 remaining sent the game into overtime tied at 50.

In the first overtime, each team took a two-point lead but quickly relinquished it, with DeBose scoring the tying basket with 28 seconds remaining, sending the game to a second overtime tied at 56.  Katie Hume (Memphis, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) buried a three-pointer on the Lady Bucs' second possession of the second overtime, and UWA's only basket was a Courington layup with 2:59 remaining, giving the Lady Bucs the victory.

DeBose scored a game-high 18 to go with 11 rebounds, while Ellis added 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) added 10 with seven assists and six rebounds.

Nicole Dames led UWA with 16, while Brittany Yeager added 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Both teams struggled from the floor, with CBU shooting 32.4 percent (24-of-74) to UWA's 34.3 percent (23-of-67).  Each team grabbed 48 rebounds, with CBU holding a 14-12 edge in offensive boards, while CBU forced 28 turnovers to UWA's 25.

The Lady Bucs come home next Saturday for a rematch with LeMoyne-Owen, who edged the Lady Bucs 98-93 in overtime in CBU's season opener in November.
