Johnson's Triple-Double Leads Lady Bucs to Victory

Normanique Johnson posted a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists as the Lady Bucs edged LeMoyne-Owen 85-82 Saturday afternoon.
Box Score MEMPHIS—Christian Brothers University junior guard  Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss., Olive Branch HS) logged a triple-double to lead the Lady Bucs to an 85-82 win over LeMoyne-Owen Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

Johnson had two assists, a basket, a free throw, and two key defensive rebounds during a 13-2 run where the Lady Bucs (8-1) put the game away in the final minutes.

LeMoyne-Owen (3-4) led 78-72 with 4:13 remaining after an Amber Johnson basket, but free throws by Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) and Johnson sparked the run.  A three-point play by Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) pulled the Lady Bucs within one, and back-to-back baskets by Marissa Stewart (Atlanta, Ga./Arlington Christian HS) gave them the lead for good.  Johnson followed with a layup, and two Wooten free throws put the game away at 85-80 in the final seconds.

Johnson finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, her first triple-double and her second time in double-figures in assists.  Wooten scored a game-high 21 points with 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Katie Hume (Memphis, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) and Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) had 11 points each, and Ellis pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds.  Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) had 10 points and eight rebounds before fouling out in just 16 minutes.

Shonice Sprouse led the Lady Magicians with 26 points, while Johnson had 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Jasmine Massey scored 15, while Sharita Jones had 11 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Both teams struggled from the floor, with the Lady Bucs shooting 38.2 percent (29-of-76) to the Lady Magicians' 39.4 (28-of-71).  CBU he;d a 56-44 edge on the boards, including a 20-10 lead in offensive rebounds.  Each team committed 12 turnovers.

The Lady Bucs return to the court Monday night at 5:30 p.m. as they visit Missouri-St. Louis.
