Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs celebrated homecoming with an 84-66 win over visiting Henderson State Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena as they out-scored HSU 40-23 over the final 14:42 to blow open what had been a tight game.
Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) scored a fast-break layup at the 14:42 mark, the first of 10 straight points for the Lady Bucs (9-16, 2-10 GSC West).
Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) finished the 10-0 run with a jumper to give CBU a 54-43 lead with 9:55 remaining in the game, and HSU (10-14, 4-8) never came closer than nine points again.
Tanaeya Worden (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North HS) led the Lady Bucs with a game-high 23 points with five assists and four steals, pacing five Lady Bucs in double figures. Wooten and
Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) scored 15 each.
Erin Nigh (Morristown, Ind./Morristown HS) scored 13, while Butler added 12.
Trenia Barbee led the Lady Reddies with 20 points, and Jazmine Ellis scored 15 points off the bench.
The Lady Bucs held HSU to just 32.2 percent (19-of-59) from the floor, including 21.7 percent (5-of-23) from beyond the arc. CBU was better inside the line, shooting 43.6 percent (24-of-55) overall despite making just 25 percent (7-of-28) of their three-pointers.
Both teams spent much of the day at the free throw line, with the Lady Bucs making 29-of-37 (78.4 percent) to the Lady Reddies' 23-of-35 (65.7 percent). CBU out-rebounded HSU 44-35 and forced 17 turnovers while committing 15.
The Lady Bucs have two games remaining in the season. They visit Southern Arkansas Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. before closing out 2008-09 at home Saturday at 3 p.m. against Arkansas Tech.
