Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss., Rosa Fort HS) scored a career-high 22 points to help the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rally for a 66-58 Gulf South Conference West Division win at Southern Arkansas Thursday night.
The Lady Bucs (10-16, 3-10 GSC West) trailed by as many as eight points late in the first half, trailing 23-15 after a Goldie White layup with 5:32 remaining in the half gave the Lady Muleriders (8-18, 2-11) their biggest lead of the night. The Lady Bucs answered with an 8-1 run, cutting the margin back to one on a DeBose layup.
The Lady Bucs trailed until back-to-back three-point plays from DeBose gave them a 38-36 lead with 14:30 remaining. The teams traded the lead several times over the next 10 minutes, but the Lady Bucs took control for good with a 9-2 run capped by two DeBose free throws with 1:30 remaining to put them ahead 59-53.
DeBose also grabbed six rebounds and was 8-of-11 from the floor, making all six free throws as she broke her previous career high of 20, a mark she equaled twice.
Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) added 11 for the Lady Bucs, including 4-of-4 free throws down the stretch to salt the game away.
Lynzi Williams led SAU with 14 points, while White scored 12.
The Lady Bucs shot a blistering 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the floor in the second half as they finished 48.9 percent (23-of-47) overall. Free throw shooting was another key, as the Lady Bucs shot 82.6 percent (19-of-23) at the stripe. SAU was 40 percent (22-of-55) from the floor.
The Lady Bucs finish their season Saturday at 3 p.m. as they host Arkansas Tech for Senior Day.
